The Book

The fifth novel in a series by Jack Sheffield, about his life as head teacher of the  small fictional village of Ragley-On –The-Forest.

This book chronicles the academic year 1981-82.

Written in 20 short chapters, each chapter beginning with an extract from the School’s alternative log book.

1981 was the year of the Falklands War, the birth of Prince William. More importantly the year which saw Jack marry his beautiful girlfriend Beth Henderson, head teacher of the nearby  Hartingdale Primary School.

The novel gives the highes and lows of village life.  The final page of the novel (page336) ends with a car crash just as the staff of the school were leaving after their end of school year party.  The reader will have to wait for the next book in order to find out who’s involved in the crash and who if anyone has survived.

Previous books in the series  :-

Teacher Teacher, Mister Teacher, Dear Teacher,  Village Teacher.
