Artist

Rose graduated as a Fine Artist in 1989. Becoming disillusioned with the art world she gave up her studio and chose instead to draw in sketchbooks and dabble with words. By 1996 performance took centre stage: street theatre, devising plays, fooling and improvisation. It was whilst working as an artist at Studio Upstairs in 2004, a therapeutic artists community that she began to re-engage with the relationship between her ‘private’ image-diaries and the act of making art in a more ‘public’ space.

Rose continues to improvise on paper using collage to create stories that resonate with her own. Her work explores aspects of ones identity and sense of belonging, shaped by both social expectations and personal experiences. Black and white – her creativity is located within the grey areas of ambivalence and the human spirit.

Dramatherapist

Rose is also a state registered Dramatherapist (HPC) who has worked with diverse groups of people in various settings including, day centres, psychiatric hospitals, schools and community centres. She has experience of individual and group therapy work and is passionate about using the arts as a means of exploring, communicating and expressing the themes and feelings that unite us as humans and define our difference.

She has worked in the NHS in a Children & Adolescent Mental Health Team, Community Learning Difficulties Team and with adults in a Medium Secure Unit  She currently works with vulnerable and traumatised young people in Neath.

Performer

Playback Theatre is spontaneous improvised theatre - the audience tells their stories and the actors re-enact them. It's unexpected, exciting, moving and honours people’s diverse experiences. Rose has been a committed performer in two Playback Theatre companies: Bristol Playback and she was co-founder of Breathing Fire, a Black Women’s company. She currently works with Queer Playback Theatre who perform nationally.

Yoga Teacher

Rose trained with the Inner Yoga Trust and is a British Wheel of Yoga registered teacher. Through gentle approaches to asana practice she encourages an atmosphere of curiosity and playful inquiry into ones whole being; mind, body and spirit. Her approach is inspired by Scaravelli’s teachings which release the spine.
