He has work on exhibition in NewZealand in a Kiwi Welsh artists exchange, the link was apparantly made when Huw has his work on exhibition at Pwerdy. Well done Huw.
Huw Andrews has recently graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University, where he studied Fine Art. Using field research, Andrews produces works in various forms, preferring photographic, video, sound, drawing, text and three-dimensional media. There Was No Time For Remembering Things Because Something Else Was Always Coming Along–, features selected photographs and videos he captured in San Francisco last year. This is his first exhibition in Wales and is held at The Powerhouse, his local arts centre.
San Francisco, like many cities, is often romanticised by tourism, consumerism, television and film, popular activities which shape our understanding of a particular place. Whilst influenced by its movie locations, Andrews wandered the undervalued instead, observing and documenting unassuming spaces, thoughts and encounters. In avoiding the central elements of the contemporary city, its stores, advertising and tourist attractions, he had the space to stop, concentrate and reflect on his surroundings. Upon turning each corner, a repeat of this sequence was imminent – as in such a vibrant city, something else was always coming along.
The title, There Was No Time For Remembering Things Because Something Else Was Always Coming Along–, is taken from Americana by Don DeLillo and aptly reflects the modest and spontaneous experiences Andrews celebrates.
